S. difficilis (S 15) 1958 (B. Burtt) The flowers of dark blue are medium sized and usually found 5-7 per stalk. The leaves longer than wide are thin, pointed and have impressed veins on top. The leaves which are almost round, toothed, and covered with dense short hairs are dark green on top with red undersides and green veins. S. magungensis var magungensis has flowers of blue-violet with darker centers with 2 to 4 flowers per flower stalk. The medium green leaves are serrated, round in shape and vary from 3/4 to 2 3/4 of an inch in diameter. The leaves have a near white reverse and are often found to cup downwards. S. orbicularis (S 14) 1947 (B. Burtt) The small pale blue to lilac flowers with a darker center are found from 5 to 8 per flower stalk. This species tends to produce two flower stalks per leaf axis for a good showing of the tiny flowers. The thin, shiny, round leaves of medium green are held at a sharp angle to the petiole forming an umbrella effect to show off the pale undersides of the leaves. S. pendula (S 8) 1958 (B. Burtt) One unusual characteristic of this species is that it has only one flower per flower stalk and do not rise very high above the foliage. The flowers are somewhat cupped. The light to medium blue flowers often having a pale blue center tend to be somewhat cupped. The slightly toothed, yellowish green leaves are longer than they are wide, very thick and extremely hairy. S. rupicola (S 10) 1964 (B. Burtt) The light blue, medium sized flowers are usually found 4 to 6 per flower stalk and are held nicely above the foliage. The shiny, medium to light green leaves have an elongated heart shape with a light green underside and brownish or green petioles. The leavers have slightly serrated margins that can appear smooth when mature.
