My name is Gabriela Hogas, I am 27 years of age and I am from Iasi.
My husband, Daniel is 30, and we have been in love with each other for
more than 7 years. On January 24 2004 I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy
- Mihai Alexandru - who, however, has a major health problem which requires
an urgent surgical procedure.

In order to live, our baby boy needs an urgent liver transplant. 

Our baby has been diagnosed with biliary atresia of both intra and
extra  hepatic ducts and with secondary biliary cirrhosis, an illness
that endangers his life more and more every day. Due to the lack of
the biliary ducts, the bilirubin is not eliminated and it poisons the
baby's liver and the entire blood flow, having already affected the
spleen, which has increased considerably.

A major problem in our case is the donor. Our Mihaita was born with a blood
type other than any member of both our families. Thus, we are forced to make
a heartfelt plea to those in very good health and with a large soul, hoping
that someone would be willing to donate a small piece of their liver to
our baby in order to save his life. A piece of the left lobe of the liver is
needed from someone with 01+ blood type.

We are looking forward to any clinic abroad with outstanding results in hepatic
transplants in babies, that could help Mihaita. The surgery costs about 
85 000 Euro in Brussels, at the Saint Luc clinic. In Paris, the surgery is 
about 100 000 Euro. We are also searching in Italy and Germany. Who knows
where God will want the rescue to come from? We can only fight and pray,
knowing that we did everything humanly possible.

We accept any idea or any project that could help Mihaita.

Mihai Alexandru is loved by the entire family, he is intelligent, keen and
very willing to live. He is fighting for his life as hard as he can, and
the doctors give him good chances of survival provided that the liver 
transplant is done as soon as possible. Every passing day brings us pain
and worsens the condition of our baby. 


For this reason, we dare ask for your help, as generous as  possible,
with the faith and hope that you will understand our suffering and our
love as parents.

I take the liberty to bring up our financial status. We live together
with my mother, Elena. My parents are divorced and my father
remarried. I graduated from the Department of Economics and Business
Administration at the Iasi University,  specializing in Management. I
worked as an economist at a private company,  and now I live off my
social assistance program ("indemnizatie") for raising the baby, which
is worth 6500000 lei (n.t. some $216), and my husband is an economist
at a private company, where he does also a lot of travelling, with
long and tiring trips. His income is about 6000000 lei (n.t. some $200).
My mother works at CET Iasi, and she also has an income of about
6000000 lei, but we already have debts due to multiple stays in the
hospital and trips to Bucharest.

We have presented briefly our status to show that we do have the
resources to support a healthy family, but given that Mihaita's health
is so frail and that it is the most important of our problems, without
neglecting the daily expenses such as electricity, phone, etc. then it
is apparent that our income is  absolutely insufficient, and we do not
know for how long we can still borrow money. And it is painful to see
that money is in the way to save a person's  life. What is money,
compared to life? Nothing. But we have to open the  right doors, and
reach the right people. This is why I dared knock on your door and
please ask me any detail you need to know, and be able to do something
for our family. Your contacts are many and very important and you have
the power to open closed doors for us.
