      Four children came to this home: William, residing on the farm in
      Emerson township; Mrs. Carrie Shirey, of Alma; Charles Asher, who
      went West at the age of twenty-one years, and Frank, who died in
      infancy..."
    info : "Henry William French was born at Johnson's Creek, Niagara County,
      New York, Sept 2, 1850 and died Nov. 29 at his home in St. Louis,
      Mich. He had been ill about eight months with heart trouble and
      dropsy.....He was one of the last of the pioneer settlers of Gratiot
      County, having lived there for over 58 years. He and his wife came
      form New York in the year 1871, arriving on the day Chicago burned,
      and the "big fire" which then raged in Michigan. He was one who
      helped to fell the timbers which opened the way to build the
      railroad between Saginaw and St. Louis....
