Helping in the classroom is an important part
of what makes
St. John's special. You get to see your little one
interacting
with others and learning to follow the instructions
of a teacher. Your child gets to have someone that he/she
loves, come to school - it's a special day
for them when it's your turn.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
On a rotating basis, parents assist a qualified
teacher
in the care and instruction of the class. At the beginning
of
the year you, or the adult who will be coming to class,
will attend a workshop. The workshop will prepare you for
being in the classroom. You'll find out the daily routine
for your teacher, what should be done each day, where
things are located, etc.
The Scheduling Parent for your class will give
you a schedule
the first week of school. You'll come in approximately two
or three times a month as a helping parent.
You should arrive ten minutes early to assist
the teacher
in getting the room ready and find out what you
can do to help that day.

You'll do craft projects, educational computer games, or perhaps help a child with a necessary skill (writing, cutting, etc.). |

One of the helping parents will also be the
Snack
Parent - This is also on a rotating basis. You bring in a
drink and a snack (preferably healthy) for the class to enjoy!
By the end of the year, you'll be amazed how
much your little
one has learned! You'll also discover that all those
parents
who were strangers at the beginning of the year - are
now your friends!
