Music Programs

As a church we offer music as another way of showing our praise for God. Our music program continues to provide excellent music for a smaller church.  Under the direction of the Scott Stearns as Music Director, music fills our sanctuary during each worship service.

Anyone interested in participating in any of the music programs or having any questions regarding the music programs, should contact the Music Director.

Adult Choir

This group provides us with a prelude to worship, an anthem during the worship service and a postlude at the end of the service.  This group is open to anyone interested in singing God’s praise. Choir Rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 6:45 p.m. beginning in September and lasting through mid June.  They also practice again on Sunday morning one half hour before the service.

For those junior high and high school students wishing to sing on a regular weekly basis, these grades have routinely participated with the Adult Choir.

Handbell Choir

A new addition to First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale’s Music Program is the Dimond Ringers, a Handbell Choir formed in September 2002.  The bells were made possible through donations to the Figg Memorial in memory of Wayne Figg. Handbell practice is each Thursday evening at 5:45 p.m. beginning in September and ending in June.

Children and Youth Handbell Choir

The enthusiasm and response from our Christmas youth handbell choir was so terrific, this music opportunity will be continued if there are enough children and youth who are 3rd graders or older. Most ringers will ring two bells and start learning how to read music. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays immediately after worship and last about 30 minutes. The first rehearsal will be February 11, 2007 and continue for 5 or 6 weeks. Ringers should plan on attending a majority of the practices. It will be fun! It will be easy! It will be a great joyful noise unto the Lord. Contact Chris Larson for additional information.

Old Hymn Sing

The last Sunday of each month you are invited to join the congregation in the Sanctuary as we prepare for our regular worship by participating in an Old Hymn Sing from 9:45 a.m. until the beginning of the regular service at 10:00 a.m. During this time, we will praise God as we join in singing some of the old songs not found in the current hymnal, plus sing some of our favorites from the current hymnal.

Special Music

During the summer while the Adult Choir is on vacation, we need special musicians to sing and/or play special music during worship. Please contact the Music Director or the church office if you can help out in this area.

Church Bells in the Village

Our carillon bells have proclaimed God’s glory in the Village of Dimondale since 1946. In 1996 our church updated the old system with a new Chime Master system, to continue this tradition in the years to come. Chimes and music play automatically at various times each day and the music is automatically adjusted to coincide with the church seasons. The system can also be operated manually to provide music for church events such as weddings and funerals.
