Calling all Acolytes
Many of our children love the honor of lighting the candles, but we need the help of the parents to reinstate this tradition. While the children may want to do this, it is the parents who are the keepers of the family calendar. There is a sign up sheet in the great room for Acolytes. Parents, if your children want to do this, would you please check your calendars and sign the kids up for a Sunday service at a future date.
Caring Fund
There is a special fund in our budget for emergency aid to people in need. We have in the past helped with travel expenses for stranded motorists, made one time utility or rent payments and provided other help to those who call our church in need. On Communion Sundays, members are asked to make contributions to this fund, using the special green envelopes in the bulletins or in the pew racks. To make a donation directly to this fund at other times, just note your intention on the comment line of your check or attach a note with your special gift. The notes or the green envelopes will help insure your giving account is properly credited for tax purposes. On Communion Sundays, we also still receive your 2 cents a meal offerings to be used to fight hunger. For additional information, visit the Mission Work page.
Church Tape Ministry
Did you know that we tape our Sunday worship services? If you miss a service and want to listen to the tape, call the church office. We deliver tapes every Sunday to two shut-ins. Let us know if you or someone else would like to be added to that regular list.
Deacon Notes
Deacons usually call members seeking volunteers for help during services such as greeters, ushers, coffee hour, nursery, acolyte or communion elements. Sometimes you may receive multiple calls or are interested in serving, but don’t get called. Now there are lists in the Great Room that you can consult with your calendar in hand to sign up to assist with the services.
Emergency Needs
There are two up to date first aid kits in the church. They include micro shields to be used when administering CPR to protect the person performing CPR. The kits are located on the counter in the kitchen and in the narthex in the cupboard by the sanctuary doors. A wheel chair has also been acquired and is located in the alcove for coats at the foot of the stairs.
“The Pantrys”
Our “Pantry” is always willing to accept donations and they are always greatly appreciated. A shopping cart has been placed in the entry of the Great Room to collect special items each month. See the Mission Work page on this web site for a list of special items being collected.
SOS or Summon Our Services
This organization stands for HELP! That is all they do, and they are strictly a volunteer organization. The mission is to help people who are in need while also trying to keep the communities elders and physically challenged safe and comfortable in their own homes as long as possible, by helping with driving, errands, household repairs and lawn work that may be too burdensome for them.
SOS volunteers are your neighbors, just regular people from the community who want to help. They are friendly and have skills that may range from a little to a lot. SOS volunteers are trailed in proper procedures before going on a call and they work with the buddy system for their protection and yours.
SOS services are free to those in need. SOS volunteers do not expect payment or renumeration of any kind. However donations are welcome, accepted and encourages, but to the main chapter rather than to the volunteers who come to help you.
If you are a senior citizen, disabled or physically challenged and living in the Dimondale, MI area, SOS may be able to help you. They will respond within 24 hours of a phone call. Currently based in only in Dimondale, the hope is the concept will spread to other communities in the tri county area.
If you need assistance, know someone who does or wish to be a volunteer or donor, please contact SOS today at 517 881-0435.
Spartan Labels and General Mills Box Tops
The church still takes Spartan and Campbell soup labels. The church also takes General Mills Box Tops for Education. The labels and box tops go to the Dimondale Elementary School. We do not take Betty Crocker points anymore. Keep bringing your labels and box tops. There is a bucket for them in the Great Room. Thanks to everyone who has already brought labels. If you have any questions about this program, please see Stacie Larson.
Special Fund Raising Opportunity
Meijer has made changes to this program which allows non-profit organizations, such as our church, to receive a donation based on your purchases at one of their stores. If you currently have a Meijer Community Rewards card you must have renewed it by May 31, 2007 our church to continue to receive cash awards from your purchase.
If you did NOT renew your card you should sign up for a new card altogether. Check the Great Room for more information or visit this web site to learn about this program and changes made after May 31, 2007: This is an excellent way for all you Meijer shoppers out there to support our church programs financially with no additional cost to you!
